Organizer Insight

Use the pockets inside your tent to store the things you'll need to grab in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning: headlamp, phone, bathroom supplies, and chapstick are my overnight necessities.

At 2 pounds, 8 ounces, the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 semi-freestanding tent is the perfect shelter for me to carry on my ultralight backpacking adventures.

Perks

  • Super lightweight
  • Pockets inside keep the most important items easy to find in the dark
  • Gear loft helps me keep my clothes off of the ground, and storage here allows for some drying time (although it has been too humid most nights for anything to dry completely if it isn’t in direct sun)
  • The dedicated footprint ground cloth adds versatility (sold separately and adds extra weight). If it’s rainy, I can set up the rainfly first, then set the tent up under the rainfly.
  • This tent has vestibules on both sides, which is helpful when I have someone hiking with me. We can exit without having to crawl over each other, and can store backpacks outside under the rainfly.
  • Does very well in the rain, when set up correctly. There were a couple of times that the edges of the tent were wet, but water wasn’t pooling. It was most likely due to not choosing a good enough site for a rainy night, and/or the rain coming in at an angle so the rainfly didn’t protect the tent on that side.

Downsides

  • Color: If I were to change anything about the tent, it would be the color. The color of the 2025 rainfly could be more exciting.
  • Weight: I could have gotten away with the Tiger Wall UL1 for my solo adventures. However, it is only $30 less, and would save me only 6 ounces. It is worth the extra weight for me because it gives the illusion that I am not traveling alone. It also allows me to fit my backpack inside the tent.

Summary

Overall, I am very satisfied with this tent. It has been used (and set up and taken down) roughly 30 nights. The only sign of wear is a slight tear in the tent body netting, which was easily fixed with repair tape. I would purchase this tent again.
